601 Squadron (County of London, Auxiliary Air Force)

(Re-created)
On Wednesday, 13th May 2009 we had the very great honour of being invited to attend the unveiling of 601 Squadron’s Flying Sword momento to commemorate Hendon’s longest serving RAF squadron. Scott Rall, James Ivers and Johnny Wheeler were able to attend and we flew to Britain for what would be an extremely memorable and moving trip. The day previous we were to attend the Squadron’s Old Comrade’s Association meeting where we were met with extremely great warmth and made to feel one with the squadron. This meeting was at the RAF Club, Piccadilly in London where several nights accommodation were also set up for us. The unveiling at Hendon was done by Air Marshal Ian Macfadyen CB OBE and was a great success. Jamie managed to convince the owners of Billy Fiske’s 1936 Blower Bentley to bring it along for the ceremony and said a few brief words about Billy. It was a day and a trip that we shall not soon forget, and we forged a strong and lasting friendship and kinship with the very fine gentlemen of 601 Squadron. Tony Oldham

Unveiling the statue

Lovely statue. We told the 600 Squadron fellows that they could put one up in the trees at the back.
